Program Goal: To provide valuable water quality information to identify polluted waters and make sure that residents and visitors alike are aware of potential health threats at the beach.


 Windward Coalition volunteers join others around the island collecting samples every other Sunday with results posted on Monday or Tuesday. 


Sampling Frequency & Season: Bi-Weekly, Year-Round


 We are always looking for volunteers to assist with water sample collection. If interested, please sign up HERE.

Aviation Noise and Air Quality

VOG, is a type of air pollution that occurs when volcanoes release emissions into the atmosphere, especially in relation to the Kīlauea volcano. Based on the current wind patterns the southern and leeward (west) of Oahu are at the greatest risk  but when trade winds are absent (mostly winter) vog can affect the entire island.

Based on the current wind patterns the southern and leeward (west) of Oahu are at the greatest risk  but when trade winds are absent (mostly winter) vog can affect the entire island. 


Residents and visitors should monitor air quality reports and follow health advisories, especially those with pre-existing respiratory conditions (e.g. asthma, COPD).

Wastewater SCAN tests municipal wastewater for the presence of pathogens such as COVID, influenza, and RSV. Changes in the concentrations of these infectious agents in wastewater tell us about changes in the rates of disease in the community.
